I have never been this eager to write a book review. This is hands-down the most comprehensive and user-friendly book of spellcasting lore on the market. It contains more substance, more get-your-hands-dirty actual witchcraft than anything I've read - and I've read plenty. Written by a genuine High Priestess and High Priest, 3rd-degree Gardnerians Lady Passion and *Diuvei of Coven Oldenwilde in Asheville, NC, this book contains no fluff and no pandering to the sqeamish. It is a massive volume packed with tons of useful information. There are three sections; Scope, Skills and Spells, each of which could have been published as a separate book. While the entire tome should be required reading for any serious student of the Craft, the Skills section is absolutely mind-blowing and should be read many times. Since my first reading of this book (I've already begun re-reading it), I have had the delightful pleasure of talking with Lady Passion about the book and Witchcraft in general. I can assure anyone that she and *Diuvei are the real real deal and write from personal experience as well as a lifetime of dedicated practice. They have produced this work in answer to the plethora of publications offering readers a watered-down and often misappropriated version of the old path. If you have, like me, had enough of the fluffy-bunny beginner children;s books then stop looking and wasting your time and money. The Goodly Spellbook is a treasure and a much needed, mature presentation on the ancient art of spellcrafting.
Quite possibly one of the best all around published Spelbooks by any author out there, and I have read and owned HUNDREDS. In over 42 years as a practicing Witch I have never found a more comprehensive tome that the Novice Initiate AND Advanced Adept can both get something out of! It offers basic spellcrafting workings for beginners than any seasoned Witch can easily enhance or adapt for their own personal twist. An invaluable addition to your Craft Library or for information to add to your personal Book of Shadows!
Writing this under my husband's account.. He bought this for me for Christmas and yall......This book is awesome. Once I start reading it I can't hardly put it down. Im beginning my witch journey and this book taught me so much just within the first 40 pages. I felt like a whole new person. If you're beginning your journey like I am, this book will clarify that inner feeling you have like this is the kind of life you want to live. It breaks down The Craft. It's not just a book of spells. It's a history lesson and break down of who, what, when, where, and why.
This is an all-around guide for practitioners, solitary or coven-wise. It covers history from the pre-Roman Empire to the present. Techniques, correspondences, references, rules, rites, the whole nine yards is covered in this book. If you're looking for a main guide, this is it. You have to be so careful with what you read when it comes to this area and I feel safe and secure with this book. It's my practical go-to guide for everything.
I liked this book because it was more on the white side of magic.
Love this book. Provides a well rounded overview on the basis of many forms of magic from folk charms to numerology, spell correspondences, divination, sigils, planetary influence, words of power, and much more. While the author does provide specific spells in common areas of human needs, I found the principles which govern energy work the most useful, because it provides a structure on which an individual can build their own practices from the ground up.
I recommend this book to every witch out there. It is a must have on your magical library. It's a treasure. Everything is well explained. It even have the pronunciation for Latin words which most books of this subject lack. It is very complete and concise. Let me say it again: a must have!
I purchased this and the Green Witch - Arin Murphy Hiscock at the same time, and thought I'd be reading The Goodly Spellbook, after Arin's book. Turns out, one chapter into The Green Witch, I decided to see if TGS would capture me faster ... well now, I literally cannot put this book down. I mean, if you want straight to the point, well researched information and someone to get you excited about, and reassure you about getting involved in, or merely learn more about craft and the whole nine yards, this book is it! Worth EVERY SINGLE CENT!
