Here's the thing: If you know of Jennifer Saunders you know two things off the bat-- she's funny as hell and she's a class act. She hasn't done many interviews over the years, so if you're like me and have belly laughed for hours with your friends, or by yourself, watching Absolutely Fabulous and French and Saunders, you understand what a treat this book is. BONKERS is an insight into her comedy roots--how she came to meet Dawn French and Ade Edmondson, when she started performing comedy, where, and with whom? Plus interesting and thoughtful insights about her personal life.This is an uplifting, funny book. How could it not be? I love people who are not afraid to laugh at themselves. I think that's what made the characters that she and Dawn French created so endearing: they're fearless and they poke fun at themselves.I bought this book because I wanted to laugh. I wanted to learn about the impetus and inspiration for the Comedy Strip Presents, French and Saunders, and, of course, I was interested in how Jennifer turned a French and Saunders skit into the more-famous-than-fame-itself-can-contain, television institution called Absolutely Fabulous.I'm 100% disabled--I was a celebrity portraitist photographer in NYC before getting hit but a car. I must say, I so appreciate how Ms. Saunders dealt with her bout with cancer (I'm not certain the word "bout " does the fight justice). She did it on her terms. She's always been rather private, and I admire her for that. In my experience in working with major magazine publications in the USA, you can't believe most of what you read anyway. To be honest, I've never understood the cult of personality. People are people. I was hoping this book would give me insight into Ms. Saunders career as one of the funniest comedic writers and actors alive.What I'm trying to say is, I'm happy Jennifer Saunders decided to write a memoir. She sets the tone early on-- she's writing it under her own terms, and gladly so! because it's absolutely delightful, insightful, and made me laugh during the author bio-- before the memoir even started.Thank you Jennifer Saunders, for bringing so much funny into the world!Highly recommended for its integrity and, of course, humor.Cheers!
A must for any French & Saunders fan. Jen Saunders has always been extremely private and while this is by no means a tell-all book, it does give a lot of insight into what my favorite comic was (or was not, as was often the case) thinking. Funny, sweet and with nothing bad to say about anyone ( how refreshing!) this is a fun, easy read that will give you a little bit more insight into F&S. Do not expect a nice, linear timeline. This book jumps all over the place, much like a comedy bit. Just sit back and enjoy.

I LOVE THIS WOMAN! I'm a bit late to the party but I love Jennifer Saunders! My journey is a little different from most, starting with Shrek 2, talk show videos, AbFab outtakes, the series, and then the movie. Who else can create two of the most annoying, selfish characters in Edina and Patsy and have the world fall in love with them? This book gives us a peek into that shy but brilliant mind. I know audiences can be perceived as hungry chicks with ever-opened beaks crying, "more, more!" But, dammit! She started it!! More, please or we'll sic the ghost of Miss Dines on you!! In the meantime, here's hoping for another book, more AbFab, and maybe - just maybe - hooking up and starring at our desserts all night together!! ðŸ˜
I am not big in biographies - I am an Italian guy in dubai who reads mostly fiction but when I saw this at the shop I thought I would look into it. Not only it was entertains, extremely funny, well written, captivating but it portrays the a beautiful, authentic person who kept her feet solidly on the ground despite one of the persons who actually SHAPED modern culture -!yet again she doesn’t flaunt it at all. God bless you Jennifer Saunders the world needs more people like you xxx
Having read this book I now feel like Jen and I could be the best of friends. A very intimate and entertaining read. Along with "Dear Fatty" by Dawn French these books are my all time favourite autobiographies. Can't wait for the Absolutely Fabulous movie! And yes Jen there has to be one.... think of your fans!
Well written and humorous autobiography made even better because it was read by the author. Jennifer Saunders' slightly skewed take on life and its peculiarities come through loud and clear and it felt like she was talking directly to the listener rather than simply mouthing the text.
Make sure you are not attempting to drink a beverage while reading Saunders' auto-bio. If you enjoyed the anecdotal writing of Carrie Fisher or Tina Fey then this book is right up your funny bone. Delightful and at times sentimental, Saunders takes us on a whirlwind tour of her talents.It is funny and inspiring. Who ever said women can't be funny is "Bonkers". The world is a better place with Saunders (and Dawn French) in it.
